Volunteer Experiences

Hear from our dedicated volunteers about their rewarding experience.

Having personally known the Gardner family prior to their son’s passing made it a no-brainer decision for me to help with the Love Yourself mission. When you personally witness the earth-shattering heartbreak of a family after a loved one of theirs is lost to suicide, you feel just a sliver of their pain and want to do anything you can to help prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak. I have always enjoyed the volunteer work for Love Yourself as all involved are positively influential, humble, and real. We are all living our own busy lives and do the best we can with what we have to offer. Amazingly, many hands make light work, and whether you have 10 or 15 minutes a week or 10 to 15 hours a week to offer, this is a great group of people to join. Everyone is understanding and respectful of each other‘s time restraints and capabilities. Even the least amount of effort doesn’t go unnoticed and the Gardner’s and their Love Yourself crew always show an immense amount of gratitude for your efforts. It’s just an absolutely wonderful group of volunteers to work with. If you want to make a positive impact on your community, lift those whose heads hang low, and really make a difference with a great group of people, Love Yourself is where you belong and the crew will welcome you with open arms.

The time I have spent volunteering with Love Yourself has been so rewarding. I have been able to learn so much about myself. My confidence has improved, and I really feel like I am making a difference in the lives of others. I most enjoy the time I get to spend in the community at various events. I love connecting people, and seeing the impact that this organization is making year after year. There is so much stigma surrounding mental health, and Love Yourself is doing everything within its power to break down barriers by shining a light on a subject that can be difficult to talk about.

We all feel empty and lost when we see someone struggling, or even worse hearing that someone ended their life… due to hopelessness. Have we all asked at one point “I wish there was something I could do?” I believe there is, making connections with others, sharing resources and supporting each other’s journey. I had the opportunity of volunteering at the Bands At The Bridge 2023. It was a great experience. I witnessed how many hours, tears, and compassion goes into bringing hope to a community. OUR COMMUNITY. The Gardner family took a tragic event, and they have turned it into something much bigger. A way to band together and bring awareness. The Bands at the Bridge provided myself and the community great resources in one stop.

Its not the Skyler wasnt loved, or that he didnt know how to love. I think the problem arose when he didn’t undertstand and realize just how much he mattered. and that we cared if he wasn’t here any more. HE WAS ENOUGH. NOW our mission is to share the message that YOU are enough as well. YOU are worth it, AS WAS HE..
